5 Halloween Recipes For Halloween Dinner

Since the holidays are upon us, I thought it fitting to focus on that "joyful" time of year. It is joyful isn't it? While most people may have visions of sugar plums dancing ham joint for sale their heads, step-families are probably more concerned about who will be where and what they will do once they get there. There's nothing like the holidays to give step-families a headache.

I started the day with a bowl of cornflakes, then for lunch I would have some cheese and gammon joint in slow cooker sandwiches or some soup and for dinner I would have a full cooked meal. Like steak, potatoes and veg or chops, potatoes and veg. I still kept to having my pizza every Friday night. As they say everything in moderation is OK.

Baby got the best deal when it came to breakfast. Since we were all eating on the fly to ensure that we'd be back at the house in time for the boys return, we brought along some chicken fingers and milk for her. For us, we stopped at one of our favorite bakeries. I stayed in the car with baby whilst the wife ran in to get something to eat. She returned with two savory sausage rolls that looked absolutely dismal to me. Even though I was desperately hungry at the time, I simply couldn't bring myself to even consider taking a bite. In the end we wound up pulling over at a convenience shop further down the road. Thinking that nobody could screw up a cooking ham and cheese sandwich , I went with that. I turned out to be so very wrong. It tasted absolutely horrible and it gave me a sick stomach.

When Christmas rolls around, cookies are everywhere. Do yourself a favor and limit yourself, or at least find a recipe that cuts back on sugar. Sugar replacements are ideal when baking desserts because pure sugar is the hardest thing for your body to breakdown. When your body is working overtime to breakdown sugar molecules, you are ready for the Christmas ham and your body is not. Think of it as a traffic jam. Sugar is causing a major back up in your body's digestive system but 5 o'clock traffic is still trying to get home. If this simile doesn't help you avoid sweets all together, at least bake a batch of cookies with a sugar substitute.

Avoid sliced or packaged deli meats. Sliced, packaged deli meats are almost always loaded with salt and preservatives. You are much better off buying a turkey or christmas ham, cooking it, and then slicing and freezing the meat yourself.

Four out of five surveyed Americans feel the holidays are too materialistic (Center for a New American Dream), and that's probably true. I wholeheartedly embrace the Center's vision of developing an Alternative Gift Registry within your network of family and friends. Check out their website, and consider it, particularly in these difficult economic times.

Place the rice then the corn in layers in a greased 2-quart casserole dish. Pour one can of the tomato sauce over the corn with 1/2 cup of the water. Layer the onion then the green pepper, uncooked beef and seasonings. Add the second can of tomato sauce with the remaining 1/4 cup of water. Cut the bacon strips in half and lay over the top. Cover the casserole dish and place in the oven. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Uncover and bake 30 minutes more.
